Joan Vilarrubias, hyper-realistic painter born in the province of Barcelona, emigrated to France at the age of nine. Having lived in London at the end of the Sixties, he became acquainted with the first signs of the hyper-realism which was to fully develop in the United States during the Seventies. On his return to France, he became known for his creativity, in particular for his monumental paintings that earned him many state commissions which he accomplished without completely abandoning easel painting. Joan Vilarrubias has set up his studio in Bages in the Pyrénées-Orientales where he now dedicates all his time to easel painting.
